Fed praise for officers after Hinckley Road incident

27 February 2018

Leicestershire Police Federation chair Tiff Lynch has expressed her sympathies to the families of the people who died in the Sunday evening explosion in the Hinckley Road area of the city.

Tiff said: “Our hearts go out to those affected by this tragic incident. We send our condolences to the families and friends of those who died and hope that those who are being treated in hospital make a full recovery.”

The Federation chair has praised all those officers who rushed to the scene to deal with the immediate aftermath of the explosion and those who are continuing to support the search operation.

“Police officers ran towards the scene of the explosion, potentially putting their own safety at risk so that they could help those directly affected by the incident and also nearby residents and passers-by,” says Tiff.

“The brave actions of these officers should not be under-estimated. Working in partnership with colleagues in the fire, ambulance and rescue services, they worked in extremely difficult circumstances to support the communities they serve.

“I understand a number of members of the public also did all they could to help those caught up in the blast and I commend their selfless acts too.”
