Adele Kirkwood - Biography
Adele served in the West Midlands Police force for 22 years, progressing to the rank of Sergeant. Throughout her career with West Midlands Police, Adele gained invaluable experience in both uniform and CID policing at Constable rank, and response, custody and neighbourhood policing at Sergeant rank.
In 1998, Adele was elected as a Sergeant’s Police Federation Representative for Aston, Birmingham and then quickly progressed to hold the posts of Deputy Secretary and then Secretary of the West Midlands Sergeants Branch Board. During this time, Adele also specialised in the misconduct field and became Deputy Discipline Liaison Officer for the West Midlands Joint Branch Board.
Early on in her Police Federation career, Adele brought a motion to the PFEW Conference in relation to compensation for officers dispossessed of annual leave. This motion was granted and later became legislation in Police Regulations & Determinations.
In 2002, Adele was elected as Region 3’s Sergeants Representative on the Joint Central Committee, quickly progressing to Legislation Sub-Committee Secretary. In 2005, Adele was awarded the post of Deputy General Secretary of the Sergeants Central Committee.
Throughout her Federation career, Adele has been committed to a wide-range of working groups, covering areas such as legislation, professional development, the futures group, amalgamations and collaborations. Adele was actively involved in the planning and development of the National Police Memorial. She also advised strategically on initiatives such as stop and search, and the provision of mobile data terminals to police forces.
In May 2008, Adele was elected General Secretary / Treasurer of the Sergeants Central Committee.
In recognition of Adele’s service and commitment to the force, she was recently awarded the long service and good conduct medal.
