Northamptonshire Police Federation

Force team will join Police Unity Tour

17 April 2024

Northamptonshire will have its own chapter in this year’s Police Unity Tour (PUT) – the sponsored cycle ride raising funds for the vital work carried out by the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) charity.

The PUT raises awareness of officers killed in the line of duty and raises funds for COPS which supports their families.

Officers interested in taking part this year can register now. There is a £150 non-refundable registration fee to offset the costs of two nights’ accommodation and a PUT cycling jersey.

“The Police Unity Tour is now in its 12th year and seems to go from strength to strength. It has raised more than £1.2 million for COPS to enable the charity to continue supporting the families of our fallen colleagues but has also helped raise awareness of the ultimate sacrifice some officers make while serving the public,” says Sam Dobbs, chair of Northamptonshire Police Federation.

“I am sure that our officers will once again get behind this event and sign up to take part.”

The cyclists will set off from their home forces across England and Wales on Friday 26 July to ride to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire for the annual Care of Police Survivors (COPS) service of remembrance on Sunday 28 July. The route usually covers around 180 miles over the two days.

To take part, entrants have to register online and pay a £150 non-refundable registration fee. This fee will offset the costs of two nights’ accommodation and a PUT cycling jersey.

COPS was founded in 2003 by retired Strathclyde police officer Jim McNulty and Christine Fulton (MBE) whose husband PC Lewis Fulton was murdered on duty in Glasgow in 1994.

The charity contacts the survivors of every officer who loses their life on duty, explaining what support the charity can offer and inviting them to get in touch if they need such support.
