Fire Brigades Union tribunal ruling
16 February 2017
An employment tribunal has ruled that while the government's transitional arrangements on firefighters’ pensions in the 2015 CARE Scheme do discriminate against some of their members, it was justifiable as it was a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has said it will now work with its legal team to consider the reasons given for the judgement and then decide whether or not to take the case to an Employment Appeal Tribunal.
Andy Fittes, General Secretary of the Police Federation of England and Wales, said: “We note the outcome of this tribunal and need to look at the judgement in detail as well as wait to hear whether there will be an appeal.”
