Prime Minister celebrates police bravery

The Prime Minister David Cameron and Minister for Policing Mike Penning celebrated the bravery of 66 police officers at a special reception hosted at 10 Downing Street today.

Officers from 31 forces around the country attended the reception (pictured) as a mark of recognition for their heroic acts.

Prime Minister David Cameron said:

“The Police Bravery Awards are an important opportunity for us to recognise, celebrate and thank our most courageous officers.

“I’m immensely proud to be Prime Minister of a country that has such men and women enforcing our laws.”

Following the reception at Downing Street officers are due to gather at the gala awards dinner this evening where their acts of bravery will be further celebrated among dignitaries and guests and winners announced.

The Police Bravery Awards, hosted in partnership with Police Mutual, is an annual event which honours police officers across England and Wales for their actions to tackle criminals and keep the public safe.  This year marks the 19th Police Bravery Awards.  The ceremony will take place on 16th October, 2014 at Plaisterers’ Hall, One London Wall, London, EC2Y 5JU.

The Police Federation of England and Wales, represents more than 124,000 police officers up to and including the rank of Chief Inspector. Established by statute, we are responsible not only for the welfare of our members but also ensure that their views on all aspects of policing, including relevant legislation, are relayed to government, opinion formers and key stakeholders.
