Airwave

26 June 2007

Paul Lewis, Secretary, Health and Safety Subcommittee, Police Federation of England and Wales:

“The Police Federation of England and Wales is aware of a number of problems with the Airwave system, some are force issues and there are those that affect officers nationally.”

“We believe it is totally unacceptable to allow any problems to go unresolved which could expose our members to any dangers. Officers need to have the best equipment and systems available to them at all times to ensure they are confident when carrying out their duties. The Police Federation is currently calling upon managers of the system and police forces to be proactive in identifying potential problems and providing foresight and resolution instead of being reactive to the problems as and when they arise”.

“We have presented our concerns to the National Police Users Group on Airwave and are trying to resolve these issues to ensure officers can have confidence in the safety and reliability of the system provided.”
