Federation response to Home Office red tape announcement
22 December 2008
Responding to the government's announcement that red tape will be cut in the police, Simon Reed, Vice Chairman, Police Federation of England and Wales says:
"We are extremely pleased that not only have our numerous calls to address the problems caused by burdensome bureaucracy been addressed but that the government have given recognition to the vital role discretion plays as a policing tool.
"The Federation has provided a raft of research and consultation over the years including our 24/7 report; 'Views from the Frontline' which highlighted the damage being caused to force resilience by restrictive red tape.
"It is crucial that for all attempts and steps made to improve and or modernise British policing in the future that the government continues to consult with those who deliver policing on the frontline. Only by doing this will we ensure the public gets the police service they rightly want and deserve."
