Federation response to Brake survey on teenage drink/drug driving
30 August 2007
In response to the survey conducted by Brake revealing that one in five teenagers admit driving on drink or drugs, Alan Gordon, Vice Chairman of Police Federation of England and Wales said:
“The Police Federation is deeply concerned by the growing numbers of young drivers who are prepared to drive under the influence of drink and drugs.
“Whilst we are concerned, statistics come as no surprise to us as some Chief Police Officers and the Home Office continue to neglect effective roads policing.
“There are far too few police patrols on our roads and youngsters, along with the rest of the public, realise there is very little chance of being caught.
“Speed cameras cannot detect drink and drugs”
