Federation comment on the appointment of Vernon Coaker as the new Police Minister
07 October 2008
Commenting on the appointment of Vernon Coaker as the new Police Minister, Paul McKeever, Chairman, Police Federation of England & Wales said;
“I would like to welcome Vernon Coaker to his post as the new Police Minister. He has a difficult job and I wish him well for the future.
“We look forward to working with Mr Coaker to ensure that the views and concerns of police officers around the country are fully represented and this is reflected in their pay, conditions and the future of policing. All too often the government has shown itself to be completely out of touch with police officers, having little or no understanding of our wishes and an almost arrogant disregard for our opinions. That is a recipe for failure for any government and I hope the appointment of Mr Coaker, the son of a police officer, signals a new, more open period in the governments’ relationship with the police service.
We want to fight crime and criminals; we don’t want to have to fight the Home Office. That is not our job.”
