Minority Ethnic Recruitment, Retention and Progression response
20 November 2008
Responding to the ministerial announcement on 'Minority Ethnic Recruitment, Retention and Progression in the Police Service', Paul McKeever, Chairman, Police Federation of England and Wales says;
"There is much in Mr Coaker's assessment that the Police Federation concur with; particularly the acknowledgement that this is not the point at which work on this is starting. Much progress has already been made as highlighted in the recent Crime Survey figures where 59% of BME respondents said they have faith in the police.
"But it is important that even with these initial improvements we continue to work towards a community reflective police service, not only through recruitment but in retaining these officers by continued encouragement and support as they progress throughout their careers.
"We welcome the creation of this Ministerial Working Group, which we are committed to contributing to on behalf of all our members."
