Federation response to the Police Performance Assessments

09 October 2007

Responding to the Police Performance Assessments published today (9 October 2007) , Jan Berry, Chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales, says:

“Whilst these statistics published today demonstrate the excellent work of police officers throughout England and Wales, many of my colleagues will be wondering just how many number crunchers have been utilised by the Home Office to produce such a volume of paperwork. Paperwork that focuses purely on the quantity of policing delivered and fails to take any account of the quality of service we provide to the public.
“It is disappointing to see that police officers are still spending large amounts of time in the station dealing with mountains of paperwork; we have waited far too long for the IT solutions promised to cut down on bureaucracy which will allow us to get on with the job of policing on the streets.”
