Federation response to figures on force media expenditure
26 March 2010
Simon Reed, Vice Chairman, Police Federation of England and Wales:
“Whilst this headline seems shocking what it reflects is the growing recognition by forces of the need to professionally engage with the media, to not only ensure the service remains accountable but is represented fairly and accurately.”
“In today’s 24/7 media culture where every incident in the public domain is reported in detail it is important to have a police voice available to proactively act as conduit to feed information to and from the public. It is often forgotten that police officers do an extremely dangerous and difficult job yet sadly only the negative angles, not the many success stories, grab the headlines.”
