Federation reaction to publication of ‘Getting it right for victims and witnesses’
31 January 2012
Commenting on the publication of the consultation document ‘Getting it right for victims and witnesses’ (30 January), Paul McKeever, Chairman of the Police Federation of England & Wales, says:
" It is important that the government ensures that suitable help and resources are available for those victims of crime who need it. However, with diminishing budgets, we must safeguard against any changes that could be expensive, wasteful or result in a poorer service for victims of crime.
"We don't necessarily have to re-invent the wheel. There are many schemes in place that work and the government would do well to listen to advice from experts, such as the charity Victim Support, as to what victims really want and expect from the criminal justice system."
