Queen's Gallantry Medal statement
16 January 2007
Following today’s announcement of the posthumous award of the Queens Gallantry Medal to Detective Constable Michael Swindells Jan Berry, Chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales:
“DC Michael Swindells was a brave officer, father and husband who laid down his life to save the lives of others. Police officers up and down the country are confronted with dangerous life and death situations when responding to emergency calls. It is rare that the acts of selfless brave officers are recognised in this way, and whilst we grieve for the loss of a colleague, we are proud to remember him today.”
Officers from Lancashire and West Yorkshire have also been awarded the medal for bravery.
