Police officers are £1,000s worse off than they were 10 years ago as a result of wages failing to keep pace with prices.

Sgts/PCs inflation-adjusted pay is £5,595 a year lower than a decade ago, according to a TUC report.

Dan Pearce, Secretary of Kent Police Federation, said: “Unfortunately this report does not surprise me. The current cost of living increases have meant that the real term value of police pay is falling even further behind where they should be.

“We are undervalued by a Government where kind words mean nothing. Police officers need to be recognised for the job we do, the job we have done during the pandemic and need a pay mechanism fit for purpose, free of Government influence.”
