Constables

Bravery

Police Bravery Award 2011
London, 7th July

This week sees the annual Police Bravery Awards, an occasion which always brings an intense sense of pride.

Making up 85% of the federated ranks membership many of those nominated are Constables.

You cannot fail to be astounded at the examples of selfless bravery that we get to hear about at these annual awards.

2011 as in previous years sees examples of courageous acts that have saved the lives of many and prevented serious injury to many more.

Examples of officers saving members of the public from the intense heat and flames of burning buildings and vehicles and rescuing those who would otherwise have surely drowned from freezing waterways feature amongst those nominated this year.

Those we serve should never forget that police officers place themselves in serious danger and perilous situations often risking their own lives to save the lives of others.

Other nominees this year include unarmed police officers tackling machete wielding assailants, chasing down armed criminals and apprehending violent Individuals having themselves been injured or witnessed injury to their colleagues, the professionalism of these officers is astounding.

Those we serve should never forget the dedication and professionalism of police officers. Officers routinely face the threat of mortal injury and serious violence to protect the public, this commitment to their job must never be accepted as being part of the job, it is what makes police officers different.

Attending this event is immensely humbling and serves as a reminder to us all of the brave actions not only of the officers nominated this year but of all of our colleagues fighting crime and keeping the public safe across the country every single day and night.

We look forward to welcoming the Prime Minister and Home Secretary along with many other distinguished guests to Thursday’s events.

Policing the streets is challenging and those challenges are likely to get tougher. Police officers will run toward when all others run away, it’s what we do and we should all be proud.
