Avon & Somerset Police Federation

All welcome: PFEW launches first Men’s Health Webinar

1 November 2023

This month’s inaugural PFEW Men’s Health Webinar, ‘Changing Attitudes’, will focus on addiction and its impact on physical and mental health.

Police officers and staff are encouraged to register to attend the webinar, which will be held via Teams on 16 November from 10am to 12.30pm.

Attendees will hear from Nick Conn, CEO of Help4Addiction, who will talk of his own experience as a serving cop with an addiction, his subsequent recovery, and how his organisation helps others on their journey.

Also speaking is Ozzy Croft from the charity Movember, on why Movember is not just about one month a year, and the importance of men's health all year round.

There will also be input from PFEW Wellbeing Lead Belinda Goodwin about empowering men to speak up, and Chief Medical Officer John Harrison on his role in changing attitudes to men’s health.

Meanwhile Thames Valley Chief Inspector Stewart Codling will discuss how forces can encourage safe spaces where men can open up, with a ‘kettle always on’ ethos.

Iain Prideaux, Avon and Somerset Police Federation Vice Chair, said: "Movember is upon us and men’s health and wellbeing comes firmly into focus.

"I hope you’re able to join the Federation’s Inaugural Men’s Health Seminar with some keynote speakers and topics to discuss. It’s an opportunity to meet the first Chief Medical Officer dedicated to Policing and how his vision for better health will be achieved.

"Influence changing attitudes and how language and behaviour helps men to open up about their health. Of course, it’s not just for men. Everyone is welcome to attend and I hope you can too.”

Attendees will be able to ask questions throughout the session. Police officers and staff who are interested in attending can register for the event here
