North Yorkshire Police Federation

Message from the Chair

10 January 2019

Welcome to our new website. We will be updating the site with reference material and relevant updates. Hopefully you will find it a useful resource.

It is an honour to represent you, the members of North Yorkshire Police Federation, as your Chair and I would like to take this opportunity to remind you about some of the things we do on your behalf.

Represent and Support

NYP Federation represent and support our membership in a wide range of areas. These include disciplinary matters, civil claims, Pension matters, ill health retirement,  Injury in Duty Awards and Police Medical Appeals Boards.

We also support numerous officers facing a range of wellbeing problems; from financial hardship through to sickness and grievances.

We provide additional counselling support for Officers here at the Federation Offices, we administer the Welfare Fund, and look after the Welfare properties on your behalf.  Welfare Fund details here.

We have 20 well trained work based Representatives to provide daily support and advice.  You can meet the Team here....

Influence

We work hard to influence on behalf of our members Nationally and Locally.

We have, along with other Federations in the region, been building relationships with our local MPs to improve conditions for officers nationally; we have helped to bring about the Protect the Protectors legislation. We are trying to secure a position to influence HMIC inspections and make sure that inspections are focused on your needs and concerns.

Locally we continue to influence the Force on your behalf. We represent your interests at Force meetings as diverse as Operational Gold meetings, Health and Safety and Public Accountability meetings.

Negotiate

We negotiate with the Force to improve conditions operationally and to improve working conditions for individual officers. For example we are supporting various members in their return to work from sickness; ensuring that organisation make the necessary adjustments to safeguard officers wellbeing. We continue to negotiate on your behalf regarding changes to your terms and conditions.

The above list is by no means exhaustive and we encourage our members to approach us with any concerns.

Once again I look forward to working with you all and hearing your views.
